Wound Care Q & A

What is wound care?

The wound care services at Prestige Primary Care, P.A. address acute and chronic wounds to lower your risk for infections and other complications. If left untreated, non-healing wounds can become more complex and require surgery.

You might be a candidate for wound care services if you have acute wounds from falls, workplace injuries, or other events.

Dr. Aziz can also manage chronic, slow-healing wounds like foot ulcers that develop from diabetes and address surgical wounds, pressure sores, and radiation wounds.

Dr. Aziz provides in-office wound care services for adolescents and adults. He also makes house calls to address chronic wounds if you’re not able to travel to the office because of transportation issues or health reasons.

What wound care services are available?

Prestige Primary Care, P.A. provides a range of wound care services on-site and in your home, including:

  • Acute and chronic wound care management
  • Diagnostic testing and lab services
  • Medication management and refills
  • Hospital treatment follow-up care

Dr. Aziz can also refer you for other home care services, medical equipment, physical therapy, and other rehabilitative services.

If you need additional wound care, Dr. Aziz can coordinate treatment with infectious disease specialists, vascular surgeons, and other medical professionals.

What happens during a wound care visit?

During your initial wound care visit at Prestige Primary Care, P.A., Dr. Aziz examines your wound and evaluates any symptoms you have. You may also need blood work or other lab tests if you already have swelling, pain, or other signs of infection.

Dr. Aziz thoroughly cleans the wound to remove debris and bacteria to prevent infection. He may also need to remove portions of damaged skin around the wound to support healing.

Depending on the type of wound you have, Dr. Aziz might apply topical medications and clean bandages over your wound to help it heal. You may need to take prescription antibiotics to prevent infection. Some wounds may require a drain to eliminate excess fluids.

Dr. Aziz recommends how often you need to visit the office or receive home care services to assess your healing. If you need specialized care, he works with your specialist to monitor your treatment and overall health.
